Susmeeta Sharma, MD, is the director of pituitary endocrinology at the MedStar Pituitary Center. Dr. Sharma has extensive experience in evaluating and treating patients with pituitary disorders such as prolactinoma, Cushing's disease, acromegaly, non-functioning pituitary tumors, adrenal insufficiency and other pituitary hormone deficiencies. Her clinical research interests include pathogenesis and diagnosis of hormonally active pituitary tumors as well as development of non-surgical treatment modalities for management of pituitary tumors.
Dr. Sharma has two separate sub-specialty clinics within MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She treats patients with any type of pituitary diagnosis at the MedStar Pituitary Center located in the Neurosciences Department (1-844-748-8482). Here, her clinic is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with pituitary tumors and other pituitary disorders. Dr. Sharma also treats patients with general endocrine diagnoses, such as adrenal, calcium, thyroid disorders and diabetes, in the Endocrinology Subspecialty clinic located at 3800 Physician’s Office Building.
Dr. Sharma is dedicated to providing patients with comprehensive personalized care. She evaluates each patient as a whole and works closely with her fellow specialists in endocrinology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology and neuroophthalmology to develop an effective, individualized treatment plan for each and every patient.
Before joining the MedStar Pituitary Center, Dr. Sharma completed a fellowship in reproductive and adult endocrinology with focus on pituitary and adrenal disorders at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She then stayed on as a junior faculty member and the Chief of outpatient endocrinology at NIH. Dr. Sharma enjoys mentoring young physicians along their path to clinical endocrinology and patient care and was honored with the Dr. Phillip Gorden Distinguished Clinical Teacher Award by the NIH Endocrinology fellowship program.
