    Q: Are your offices open?

A: We are open for in-person visits. Please review our health and safety procedures before your appointment.

    Q: Are video visits available?

A: Yes. While not all medical care can occur through a video visit, your MedStar Health provider can schedule a video visit to talk to you about your care and help you determine if you should come into the office. Please call your provider’s office to see if a video visit is right for you.

Q: What is the face mask policy for patients?

A: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new COVID-19 guidance recommending the use of face masks in public spaces. Face masks are required for everyone, regardless of symptoms.

Q: Will the provider have access to my electronic health record?

A: If you are a previous MedStar Health patient, a summary of your previous visit(s) will be accessible to the provider. Prior to seeing a provider, you will be able to communicate the reason for your visit.
"This office is wonderful. I have been coming to the same practice for years and have never had any problems. Please continue what you are doing. Your customer service is awesome!"

Telehealth urgent care: frequently asked questions.

  • What is MedStar eVisit - Telehealth?

MedStar eVisit – Telehealth is MedStar Health’s telehealth platform for same-day urgent care with or without an appointment. It offers convenient medical care by MedStar Health licensed providers through secure video. MedStar eVisit – Telehealth is available to patients of all ages either on-demand (without an appointment) 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, or with an appointment, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our team of MedStar Health physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners provide access to care for illnesses and injuries that do not require an in-person examination.

Please note that MedStar eVisit – Telehealth providers are licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and you must be physically located in one of these areas at the time of service. Your permanent residence may be in a different state or country.

If testing is required and completed at a MedStar Health facility, your MedStar eVisit - Telehealth provider will provide specific directions and pre-arrival notifications.

MedStar eVisit – Telehealth providers can care for medical conditions, including colds, flu symptoms, COVID-19, fever, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, sinus pain, seasonal allergies, sore throat, red and painful eyes, headaches, rashes, and urinary tract infections. Our providers can also answer questions and address concerns about sexual health. Patients are provided with telehealth care based on the acuity of symptoms and order of arrival.

MedStar eVisit – Telehealth providers routinely see patients dealing with stress and anxiety and can help with basic stress-relieving techniques and help patients find other care sources for longer-term mental health needs.

A telehealth exam is different from an in-person exam. Still, there are many of the same elements that are important in making a diagnosis and treatment plan that can be performed by video. For example, your provider can assess your general appearance, check the back of your throat, examine your skin, and see how you move and speak.

Most patients who use MedStar eVisit – Telehealth can be treated; however, if an in-person visit is required, our providers can help direct you to the most appropriate care, i.e., urgent care or emergency services.

MedStar eVisit – Telehealth providers have access to previous MedStar eVisit – Telehealth encounters as well as a patient’s electronic health record with MedStar Health.

MedStar Medical Group is a participant in most major health insurance plans. As such, when you use MedStar eVisit – Telehealth, we will bill your insurance company. You are responsible for any copay, coinsurance, or deductible as you would for any in-person primary care visit.

Our on-demand telehealth option offers a self-pay rate of $79. (If you do ask us to bill insurance, your copay, coinsurance, or deductible may be less than our self-pay rate but may also be more.)

  • What are the technical requirements for a MedStar eVisit - Telehealth?

The MedStar eVisit – Telehealth app (for on-demand visits only) supports the recent versions of most browsers, as well as access to apps for iOS and Android devices.

No app is needed for MedStar eVisit - Telehealth by appointment. Simply click here to be directed to our scheduling platform to see the next available same-day appointment time. You may choose to use your mobile device, tablet, laptop, or computer to connect when it is time for your appointment. For scheduled appointments, a link to connect with the provider will be sent to you prior to your visit.

To access MedStar eVisit – Telehealth (either on-demand or by appointment) via the web, you will need a computer, internet access, webcam, microphone, and speakers. The service will ask for a phone number to call you in case you get disconnected during the visit. The service will prompt you to conduct an equipment test to ensure your device will support a visit. If the service prompts for any software updates (especially for video capabilities), please accept/download the updates so you may access medical care through MedStar eVisit – Telehealth.

There are also minimum system requirements necessary to conduct a video visit. An important part of a successful video visit is a strong connection and/or a strong signal. If the system detects a weak signal, it may prompt you to switch to an alternate connection to conduct a visit successfully. This may mean switching to a Wi-Fi connection if your cell service is not strong.

If you do not have the correct equipment to support a MedStar eVisit, you are encouraged to visit an urgent care center, such as MedStar Health Urgent Care, for services. MedStar eVisit providers will not be able to do an appropriate evaluation and assessment over the phone.

For technical support call 888-805-4551 or email telehealthsupport@medstar.net.

"Going to the doctor’s office/urgent care with small children can be nearly impossible. Sometimes it’ll make us ignore our medical issues due to the inconvenience it would cause having to leave the house for an appointment. By the time I downloaded the virtual app, made my appointment/filled out the consent forms, I was seen by a provider within 30 mins! She was friendly, professional, and straightforward. I am impressed."
