Building the future of cancer care: the new oncology pavilion at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center

Thanks to our philanthropic partners, we have surpassed our $3 million goal in support of the new Pavilion. We are especially grateful to our lead partner Mr. Robert “Bobby” Smith, for his leadership as we advance medicine in the community. Click here to read more about Bobby's dedication to our hospital.

The excellent and compassionate team of care providers at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center delivers a comprehensive range of oncology services to patients in our community such as surgery, chemotherapy, medical oncology, immunotherapy, and radiation. We are launching a renovation and expansion project that will transform the oncology center’s external environment, as well as enhance the footprint of our internal space to optimize access for the patients and families we serve.

The new Oncology Pavilion will encompass an entire continuum of care—from easily accessible patient parking, a graceful new building façade, and a new welcoming lobby. The transformation of the internal oncology environment including the Helen P. Denit Center for Radiation Therapy, Shirley A. Smith Infusion Center and Medical Oncology/Hematology Suite has dramatically improved the overall quality of health care and comfort for our cancer patients. The pavilion also will house access to cutting-edge technology and novel therapeutics. Our goal is to improve the physical space to enhance the patient experience and create an environment for healing and collaboration.

In partnership with MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center patients may choose to participate in one or more studies that hold the promise for the advancement of medicine and patient care.

We are entering a new chapter as a more united and inspiring cancer center. All of these enhancements serve to reflect our unified approach to cancer care while inspiring our community with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Two weeks later, her life changed. “I went in for a breast screening MRI that had been suggested six months earlier, despite a stable mammogram,” she says. “I thought it was an odd recommendation at the time. But it might have saved my life.”
