Karen Laugel, MD, is the Medical Director of MedStar Health Concussion Clinics. She is a Howard University Medical School graduate and trained in pediatrics at the University of Connecticut-Connecticut Children's Medical Center. She is Board Cerfied in Pediatrics and founded and directed a general pediatric practice for three decades. She then trained in concussion management at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program and launched a regional concussion care practice in Connecticut from 2012-2018. She created a state-wide non-profit community outreach program from 2013-2018 for concussion education and prevention, and developed a state model for transitioning children with TBI back to school. She built and staffed a national online data bank in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics to track and analyze incidents of head injury in children 5-22 years of age from 2012-2018. After moving to Maryland in 2018, she became the director of HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care at Righttime Medical Care and then joined MedStar in 2020, providing concussion care for children and adults.
