WASHINGTON – The Kids Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile with MedStar Georgetown Community Pediatrics is partnering with DC Health to provide free back-to-school and COVID-19 vaccinations every Tuesday in August and September. The vaccination clinics will be open to all D.C. children ages 6 months and up and their families.
District law requires students in all D.C. schools, both public and private, to be fully compliant with vaccinations requirements to attend school. This year for the first time, the immunization requirements now include the COVID-19 vaccine for students 12 and older. The law also requires schools to verify immunization certification for all students. DC Public Schools start Aug. 29.
“Our goal is to increase vaccination rates in children here in D.C.,” said Janine Rethy, M.D., pediatrician at MedStar Georgetown Community Pediatrics, and Director of the Kids Mobile Medical Clinic. “For more than 30 years our role has been to be in the community to help address the problem of health disparities, bringing families care where they are. For this particular effort we are glad to be partnering with DC Health to provide both regular childhood vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines to all children.”
“It’s really important for kids to get vaccinated as well as make sure they stay on top of their immunizations for school,” said Kimberly Brawner who took her daughter to the mobile clinic when it stopped at Digital Pioneers Academy, a D.C. Public Charter School in Southeast in early August. “It was wonderful. She doesn’t like needles, but she was a trooper.”The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that the District of Columbia has the lowest childhood vaccination rate of any state/territory in the United States. MedStar Georgetown Community Pediatrics, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, is continuing its decades-long commitment to the health of D.C. children.
The available vaccinations include:
- Back to school required vaccinations
- First time COVID-19 vaccines
- COVID-19 boosters (if eligible)
