WASHINGTON - At the Capital Healthcare Honors on Wednesday, March 26, Lisa Boyle, MD, FACS, president of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and senior vice president for MedStar Health, received the Meritorious Service Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and her continued strategic leadership of the hospital’s medical staff. The Meritorious Service Award is the Medical Society of DC’s highest award and has been given out since the 1940s to recognize distinguished service to the medical profession.
The theme for event, held at the National Press Club, was “Honoring Decades of Excellence in Medicine - Celebrating the Trailblazers of the Washington, DC Medical Community.” “It is an honor to receive the Meritorious Service Award,” said Dr. Boyle. “Although the COVID-19 pandemic brought unforeseen challenges to providing care, we were able to tackle those issues head on thanks to the exceptional doctors, nurses, and team we have at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.”
With more than 3,000 members, the Medical Society of DC is the largest medical organization representing physicians in the District of Columbia. Founded in 1817, it is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of physicians and their patients in metropolitan Washington. Their goal is to make the District of Columbia the best place to practice medicine.
Dr. Boyle is a board-certified surgeon, specializing in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. She earned her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, completing her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Boyle is actively involved in research in the areas of thyroid disease and thyroid cancer with a number of scholarly journals publishing her research.
