MedStar Georgetown University Hospital only cancer program in the Washington, D.C. region to be nationally ranked; also recognized as High Performing in five specialty services and six procedures and conditions
WASHINGTON – MedStar Georgetown University Hospital has been nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 50 cancer programs for 2022-2023. It is the only nationally ranked cancer program in the Washington, D.C. region. This national ranking recognizes the outstanding clinical excellence provided by MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C.
MedStar Georgetown also was recognized as “High Performing” in the following five specialty services: gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery. In addition, six procedures and conditions were ranked as “High Performing.” The six procedures and conditions include: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, kidney failure, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, and stroke. A “High Performing” designation means that MedStar Georgetown is in the top 10 percent of the thousands of hospitals across the country that were analyzed by U.S. News & World Report for each of those specialty services.
“This public recognition is a testament to the outstanding level of commitment by the entire MedStar Georgetown team to providing exceptional care to our patients,” said Michael Sachtleben, president, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. “There is no question that their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to well-coordinated care are the reasons that MedStar Georgetown is regarded so highly for its exceptional level of care.”
