MedStar Montgomery Medical Center President Emily Briton Named to Washington Business Journal 2024 40 under 40 List

Briton is honored alongside young executives in the Greater Washington area, representing industries including health care, real estate, media, government, and more

OLNEY, Md. — Emily Briton continues to make an extraordinary impact during her tenure as president of MedStar Montgomery Medical Center and senior vice president, MedStar Health. Appointed on July 1, 2023, Briton previously held several leadership roles within the MedStar Health system, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., which is one of the largest hospitals in the region with over 900 beds.

This leadership was recognized by the selection committee at the Washington Business Journal, as Briton was named to the 2024 40 under 40 list. The awards recognize “40 rising stars in the local business world who have distinguished themselves in their companies, their communities and their industries — all before their 40th birthday.” Noted as one of the publication’s most competitive awards, the 40 under 40 list awards “executives, innovators, and entrepreneurs who represent our region’s next generation of business leaders.”

A George Washington University alum with longstanding roots in Washington D.C., Briton has nearly 15 years of hospital and health system administration experience. Since her start as a corporate administrative resident, she has been integral in the success of service line integrations across MedStar Health. During her work with health system integration, she has developed, integrated and overseen operations for systemwide service lines, including Radiology, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, hospital medicine, Behavioral Health and Gastroenterology.

At MedStar Washington, Emily managed all clinical and non-clinical operations of the hospital and co-chaired the hospital’s Gender and Sexual Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Committee. She provided active leadership to MedStar Health’s COVID-19 response by leading a systemwide vaccine program. The vaccine program that she led provided vaccines to over 100,000 individuals during a six-month period through 20 unique vaccine centers and one of the only mass vaccination sites in Washington, D.C. She also represented MedStar Health on the Greater Washington Board of Trade vaccine task force.
