Maryland Department of Health again recognizes MedStar Health as a leader in workplace wellbeing
Columbia, Md. – Nine MedStar Health entities have been recognized by the Maryland Department of Health as a “Healthiest Maryland Business,” an award honoring workplaces in the state that prioritize employee health and wellbeing. This year, the following Maryland-based MedStar Health teams represented nine of 40 total honorees:
- MedStar Ambulatory Services
- MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center
- MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital
- MedStar Health Home Care
- MedStar Health Research Institute
- MedStar Montgomery Medical Center
- MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center
- MedStar St. Mary's Hospital
- MedStar Union Memorial Hospital

MedStar Health deepens commitment to associate wellbeing
As the largest healthcare provider and one of the largest employers in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region, MedStar Health supports its more than 33,000 associates with leading wellbeing resources, services, and workplace environments. The MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing was established in November 2021 to solidify wellbeing as a top organizational priority and to centralize and advance ongoing efforts to support associates and providers across the system.
Over the past fiscal year, the MedStar Health Center for Wellbeing had more than 26,000 individual touchpoints with associates through mental health coaching sessions, expedited mental health appointments, wellbeing event and outreach efforts, and more. The Center for Wellbeing team tailors its support through individual and group coaching sessions, educational offerings at the local, regional, and national levels, and innovative initiatives to reduce clinician burden and focus on system wellbeing enhancements.

Healthiest Maryland Businesses that prioritize wellbeing
According to the Maryland Department of Health, the Healthiest Maryland Business award honors the Maryland businesses that foster a culture of employee health and wellbeing, making wellness choices easy and accessible for all employees. Applicants to this awards initiative are asked to share how their organization is addressing wellbeing in four areas: programs, policies, benefits, and environment. Recognized businesses are assigned an Exemplar, Pacesetter, or Standout rating based on the strength of their wellbeing initiatives. Those honored have demonstrated results in securing organizational support, employing multifaceted wellbeing strategies, and making data-driven decisions.
