BALTIMORE—Without leaving their cars, Baltimore-area residents can get a free flu shot Nov. 4 at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center’s 12th annual drive-thru clinic. The vaccination is recommended by experts citing the severity of last year’s flu season.
This is the hospital’s 12th annual drive-up and walk-up free flu shot event held at the Community College of Baltimore, Essex campus. Clinicians will be ready to administer the shots to anyone in the car aged six months and up, who don’t have a known allergy to the vaccine. Those who are getting the vaccine should remember to wear short sleeves.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone aged 6 months and up get a flu vaccine every fall unless they have a medical condition that would prevent them from doing so. The CDC classified the last flu season as “high severity,” killing 80,000 people, including 180 children.
Flu clinics were also held this year and last year at MedStar Harbor Hospital. Last year, 950 people were vaccinated at the two hospitals during the drive-up events.
Since 2007, MedStar Health has worked closely with county agencies to hold the clinic, including the Baltimore County Health and Human Services, Police, Fire and Public Works departments, and the Community College of Baltimore County, which allows the use of its Essex campus.
