BALTIMORE—Young athletes and their parents will learn from top sports medicine experts and hear from a Baltimore Ravens player at the inaugural Playmore! Youth Sports Symposium, sponsored by MedStar Sports Medicine, Saturday, May 19.
The event, which runs from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include an educational symposium where sports medicine physicians will cover topics such as whether young athletes should specialize in one sport and how to keep young athletes safe. Children attending the event can participate in activities such as wiffle ball, soccer, flag football and running.
The keynote speakers will be Morgan Cox, a long snapper for the Baltimore Ravens, who will speak at 12:30 p.m.; and Bryce Crawford, the assistant men’s basketball coach for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Retrievers, who will speak at 9:25 a.m.
“Many children today are highly specialized in a singular sport and participating in competitive, organized team sports year-round,” said Lindsay Jones, MD, a pediatric sports medicine physician for MedStar Sports Medicine. “This shift calls for open discussion about injury prevention, and best practices-- how best to care for and develop these talented young athletes.”
