About me
Brian Bello, MD is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon with the MedStar Colorectal Surgery Program and program director of MedStar Health's fellowship in colon and rectal surgery. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a graduate degree from Georgetown University. He finished medical school at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia where he was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Bello completed a residency in general surgery and fellowships in both minimally invasive surgery and colon and rectal surgery at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Bello specializes in the treatment of colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, complex anorectal disorders, diverticulitis, fecal incontinence, chronic constipation, pelvic floor disorders, colonoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery, and general surgery. Dr. Bello has advanced training in performing state-of-the-art minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for major colon and rectal surgery. He has a special interest in researching enhanced recovery protocols and outcomes after surgery.
Dr. Bello has presented at national meetings and written multiple book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.
