Abdulnaser Alkhalil
PharmD, PhD
Abdulnaser Alkhalil, PharmD, PhD, serves as a senior scientist in the Firefighters' Burn and Surgical Research Laboratory at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Alkhalil's current research is focused on wound healing mechanisms, wound infection, and chronic wound treatment. His previous experience includes work for the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he studied host-pathogen interactions and the pathogenesis of several viral agents, and for Emergent Biosolutions, where he collaborated as part of a team to develop a new vaccine for anthrax.
Dr. Alkhalil has published peer-reviewed articles on ways in which the genetics, genomics, electrophysiology, and glycobiology sciences can help further understanding of disease and infection mechanisms and help further the development of countermeasures. His work spans an array of scientific and administrative functions with an emphasis on ensuring proper planning, execution, analysis and results reporting.
He has experience in the development of animal models for wound injury and recovery and in clinical trials of diagnostic tools used to assess wounds and interventions to improve outcomes for patients with injuries. He also has experience in conducting clinical trials to investigate innovative wound therapies.
Dr. Alkhalil received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Georgetown University and participated in post-doctoral training at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
