Frederick Finelli, MD, JD, serves as vice president of Medical Affairs at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. In this role, he acts as a liaison between the hospital’s management and staff. He also is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining clinical and medical staff policies.
Prior to MedStar Montgomery, Dr. Finelli was medical director of Operating Rooms and associate chair for Quality and Safety for MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He also served as section director of General Surgery, a title he earned after working as an attending surgeon for 27 years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Finelli has served as the chair of the MedStar Health Medical Policy Committee. He also has served as the chairman of the Washington, D.C., Board of Medicine and president of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. Earning a bachelor’s degree from University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Finelli also possesses a medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a board-certified general surgeon and fellow of the American College of Surgeons with bar memberships in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and Colorado. Dr. Finelli is a member of many professional associations, including the American Medical Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Finelli is also a member of the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Hospital Ethics, and has authored and published numerous research articles.
