At MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, our dedicated oncology team offers a comprehensive array of services, including surgery, chemotherapy, medical oncology, immunotherapy, and radiation. Our mission is to provide exceptional care to every patient in our community. With a compassionate, collaborative approach, our skilled providers develop personalized care plans tailored to each individual.

We deliver a full spectrum of cancer services, encompassing screening and prevention, research, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, social and emotional support, and survivorship programs.

Additionally, MedStar Montgomery ensures that patients have local access to care, enhanced by the resources and expertise of MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute.

A transformed space

We are excited to announce the successful completion of The Centennial Campaign, which commemorated 100 years of care in our community and set the stage for future advancements through a building initiative. Thanks to the generous contributions of our supporters, we raised more than $4 million to enhance our John D. Maylath, MD Oncology Pavilion.

The campaign funded a new addition, which transformed the entrance and surrounding area of our John D. Maylath, MD Oncology Pavilion, creating a seamless connection between the Helen P. Denit Center for Radiation Therapy, the Shirley A. Smith Infusion Center, and the Medical Oncology/Hematology Suite.

Honoring our philanthropic champions

In recognition of Dr. John D. Maylath's profound impact on our hospital and the generous philanthropic investments of his daughter, Marian Maylath, the expanded John D. Maylath, MD Oncology Pavilion has been named in his honor.

Dr. Maylath was a skilled urologist and the first vice president of Medical Affairs at MedStar Montgomery, whose legacy continues through the compassionate care we provide today. Marian serves as a philanthropic champion for our hospital, ensuring her father’s compassionate spirit continues to benefit this community.

Bobby Smith

We also are grateful to Mr. Robert “Bobby” Smith, whose generous contributions and post-humorous gift continues to advance our mission years after his passing. In recognition of Bobby's generosity, the Shirley A. Smith Infusion Center bears the name of his beloved wife, who inspired his generosity to MedStar Montgomery.

What’s next for the John D. Maylath, MD Oncology Pavilion

While the addition to our John D. Maylath, MD Oncology Pavilion marks a significant milestone, our commitment to advancing medicine and maintaining modern facilities continues. With the completion of the new space, we now turn our attention to other critical areas within the Pavilion.

The Shirley A. Smith Infusion Center is our most dated space, and it is in need of an update. To ensure we provide our patients with the best possible care and comfort, we will invest in new furnishings, state-of-the-art equipment, and a comprehensive refresh of the center. Your support will be vital as we embark on this next phase of enhancements to create an environment that reflects our commitment to excellence in oncology care.
