William “Bill” Sheahan is chief innovation officer and a senior vice president of MedStar Health. He is also the executive director of the MedStar Institute for Innovation, a multidisciplinary team of associates who explore, build, and scale new ideas that shape the future success of MedStar Health.
Serving in these innovation leadership roles since July 2021, Bill collaboratively drives value from applied innovation and scales systemwide transformation agendas in areas like acute care of the future, technology-enabled care delivery, and intelligent automation. He reports to Ken Samet, the president and chief executive officer of MedStar Health, who chartered MedStar Institute for Innovation more than 15 years ago. Additionally, Bill is a member of the MedStar Health leadership team.
Bill joined MedStar Health in 2013 as the executive director of the MedStar Health Simulation Training & Education Lab (SiTEL), which creates, deploys, and commercializes education products used at MedStar Health and across the country. In 2017, he became the founding executive director of the MedStar Telehealth Innovation Center to support digital care activities systemwide, which grew exponentially in response to COVID-19.
Bill has long been a champion for innovation across the system. He has most recently built and operated enterprise-wide automation, AI, and wellbeing infrastructure, and has extensive experience negotiating external strategic relationships. Bill has served as an advisor or board member to numerous companies, entrepreneurs, and executive teams, finding passion in refining product strategies and growing businesses.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, Bill served in leadership roles in academia, government, and private sector businesses, including a decorated 15-year career as a paramedic, clinical educator, and public safety executive in New York.
