About me
Abhinav Sood, MD, is an interventional cardiologist at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Dr. Sood is board-certified in internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, adult cardiovascular medicine, and interventional cardiology. He specializes in treating coronary artery diseases, complex coronary artery disease, chronic total occlusions, and valvular heart diseases.
Dr. Sood uses minimally invasive procedures to treat a wide range of heart and valvular conditions, such as aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation, atrial fibrillation, and chronic total occlusion. He is particularly interested in treating cryptogenic strokes and preventing their recurrence, especially in otherwise young healthy adults. He also specializes in performing left atrial appendage occlusion to prevent strokes in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation unable to tolerate blood thinners.
Dr. Sood’s primary research interest is developing ways to reduce atrial fibrillation after TAVR procedures. He is also keenly interested in improving quality of life for patients with chronic total occlusion despite taking their prescribed medications.
