About me
Anousheh Sayah, MD is the Director of Spine Imaging and an Associate Professor of Neuroradiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She serves as an attending physician in both neuroradiology and neurointerventional radiology and is board certified in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology. A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Dr. Sayah has deep ties to the community.
Dr. Sayah completed her medical education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, followed by a radiology residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She then pursued two fellowships in neuroradiology, one at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and the other at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. During her fellowship, she focused on image-guided spine procedures and neurointervention.
Dr. Sayah has an active practice specializing in spine imaging using CT and MRI technology, as well as myelography. She is a co-founder and integral part of the CSF Leaks Disorder Program at MedStar Georgetown. She routinely performs image-guided spine interventions, including spinal epidural steroid injections, spinal vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty, spinal biopsies, spinal patching, and complex myelography. Additionally, she is engaged in clinical research involving spine imaging and associated spinal procedures.
Philosophy of Care
"My focus is on imaging the brain, head, neck, and especially the spine. The spine is my primary interest, as I am also involved in image-guided treatments of spine-related conditions, including epidural steroid injections and vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty. I perform most epidural steroid injections with CT guidance, which provides greater detail of the anatomy in and around the spine, including the nerve roots, compared to standard x-ray fluoroscopy.
We are currently developing our CSF Leaks Disorder Program in collaboration with colleagues in Neurosurgery and Neurology.
In treating patients, I believe in listening and understanding the problem as a whole before deciding on a treatment plan. It is important to take a multidisciplinary approach in all matters, both in diagnosing through imaging and in treating through injections or cement augmentation of the spine."
