About me
Caroline Trevisan, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained rheumatologist who sees patients at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and the MedStar Health Medical Center at Chevy Chase. Her areas of special interest and expertise include the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, inflammatory myopathies (chronic muscle diseases that can cause muscle inflammation, weakness, and pain), crystalline arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathies (forms of arthritis that affect the spine, shoulders, and hips), psoriatic arthritis, and Sjogren’s syndrome (an immune system disorder).
During her fellowship, Dr. Trevisan completed a specialized training program to become skilled in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound and its application to the management of rheumatic illnesses.
Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Federal Practitioner, and she has presented her research at several forums and meetings. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Rheumatology, the American Medical Association, the Rheumatism Society of the District of Columbia, and USSONAR.
Dr. Trevisan’s philosophy of care is focused on shared decision making with her patients. She encourages open discussions to help each patient learn about her or his diagnosis and the available treatment options.
She earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. During her residency, she was a volunteer for the MedStar Georgetown University School of Medicine HOYA Clinic, providing medical care for people in the D.C. area who were unhoused or uninsured.
When she’s not working, Dr. Trevisan enjoys traveling, reading, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family.
