About me

Elliot T. Dawson, MD, serves as Chair of the Department of Neurology at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. He also holds leadership responsibilities at MedStar Harbor Hospital, serving as Chief of the Division of Neurology.

Dr. Dawson and his colleagues deliver the full-range of comprehensive, research and evidence-based care for complex stroke patients including thrombolytic therapy, endovascular interventions, and open surgical procedures at MedStar Franklin Square, recently named a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the Maryland Institute or EMS Systems (MIEMSS). This is the highest level of designation available for hospitals offering stroke services.

Additionally, Dr. Dawson practices as a vascular neurologist and adult neuro hospitalist, primarily treating patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to the hospital. Under his leadership, MedStar Franklin Square’s neurology practice is growing rapidly, positioning itself as one of the best places to turn in the region for subspecialty-focused outpatient neurology care. The neurology team remains committed to is mission to provide access to the highest standard in healthcare, from one day to the next.

Dr. Dawson joined MedStar Health after serving in similar roles with a private practice in Southern California. While there, he also practiced at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, serving as medical director of both the department of neurosciences and the stroke program. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.

“Neurology is a cherished practice that allows me to offer explanations, solutions, and life-saving treatments that were not available years ago. With each patient I see, I learn about a member of our community, listen to what is most important to him or her, and determine how to meet their needs. I love that every day presents new opportunities to offer hope, promote wellness, and practice generosity.” —Dr. Elliot T. Dawson
