About me
Mark Gonzalez, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He has expertise in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and other medical conditions of the eye. He also provides routine eye exams for glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Gonzalez has a special interest and expertise in refractive cataract surgery. This involves the use of premium Intraocular lenses in order to eliminate or greatly reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery. Additionally he offers laser assisted cataract surgery, a state-of-the-art and potentially safer alternative to traditional cataract surgery.
Dr. Gonzalez has been instrumental in bringing the latest technology and innovation to MedStar Eye Institute. One such innovation is minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery, an alternative to traditional glaucoma surgery that can be performed at the same time as cataract surgery and affords less risk to the patient than traditional glaucoma surgery.
Dr Gonzalez is constantly updating his techniques and instrumentations in order to provide patients with the most accurate and optimal results. He also works with ophthalmology residents at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and participates in Grand Rounds at various MedStar Health hospitals.
Dr. Gonzalez sees patients at MedStar Eye Institute in Bowie, Silver Spring, and at the MedStar Health Medical Center in Leisure World.
In his spare time, Dr. Gonzalez enjoys spending time with his wife and their two kids. He is also an avid golfer and enjoys expanding his culinary skills.
