About me
Dr. Gohh is a fellowship-trained, board-certified transplant nephrologist with more than 25 years’ experience in the field. He comes to MedStar Georgetown from Rhode Island Hospital, the principal teaching hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he has served as medical director of the kidney transplant program since its inception more than two decades ago.
He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and completed his residency and nephrology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Gohh also completed a transplant nephrology fellowship at New England Deaconess Hospital/Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
His areas of special interest and expertise include acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, recurrent disease after kidney transplantation, diabetic nephropathy, end stage renal disease, glomerulonephritis, cardiorenal syndrome, hypertension, and nephrotic syndrome.
Dr. Gohh is an active researcher whose interests include pharmacokinetic studies of immunosuppressive medications and how they affect different transplant populations and studies that helped to identify and treat patients at increased risk for recurrent primary renal disease in the post-transplant setting. His more recent research interests focus on how new clinical monitoring tools can be used to detect those patients at increased risk for adverse outcomes following transplantation.
His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications and he has presented at conferences and meetings in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Gohh is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, and he has served in leadership positions with both the American Society of Transplantation and the United Network of Organ Sharing and Organ Procurement Transplant Network.
Dr. Gohh’s approach to patient care focuses on taking time to educate patients about their condition and treatment options so they can make informed decisions about their care. Although he manages patients throughout all stages of their transplant experience, he has a special interest in treating diabetic patients with kidney disease who may benefit from pancreas transplantation.
When he’s not working, he enjoys theater, live jazz, and exploring Washington, D.C. He is also an avid hockey fan.
