About me
Vikram V. Nayar, MD, FAANS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with advanced training and expertise in brain aneurysms, tumors, and spine surgery. He specializes in minimally disruptive microsurgical techniques. He has practiced at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital since 2010, and serves on the Georgetown University faculty as associate professor. He is the director of Cerebrovascular Surgery, and the surgical director of the Neuro ICU.
Dr. Nayar graduated from Harvard University in 1998. He attended medical school at the University of Maryland, followed by a surgical internship and neurosurgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He served as chief resident in neurosurgery at five hospitals in the Texas Medical Center: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Ben Taub General Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center, and Texas Children's Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
For several years, Dr. Nayar has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Neurosurgery by Washingtonian magazine. He has received multiple Caring Star Awards and SPIRIT Awards from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He received the John Carroll Society Pro Bono Health Care Award from the Archbishop of Washington, for his charitable work in neurosurgery. He directs the Cerebrovascular Conference, for multidisciplinary evaluation of patients for microsurgical, endovascular, and Cyberknife treatments. He developed the treatment paradigm at MGUH for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, Active Member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and neurosurgery textbooks.
