About me
Vinay Deshmukh, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. His career, spanning over twenty years, began at the largest independent practice in the nation at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates (CNSA) where he served on the Board of Directors and was Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. At MedStar Health, he has developed a highly respected clinical and research based practice focusing on cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, and spontaneous CSF leaks. His leadership roles include serving as the Neurosurgical Director of the MedStar Spine Governance Council and Co-Director of the MGUH CSF Leak Center. Among his many honors, Dr. Deshmukh was recognized by his peers as “Top Doc” for multiple consecutive years in the Carolinas, in Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and nationally by Castle Connolly. He also had the privilege of being the Lead Neurosurgeon for NASCAR for nearly ten years.

- Cerebrovascular surgery (brain aneurysm and AVM)
- Cranial and Spinal CSF Leaks
- Minimally invasive, endoscopic, and robotic spine surgery
- Cervical and lumbar artificial disc and joint preserving surgery
- Cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL)
Dr. Deshmukh holds a patent for surgical instrumentation, has been published in leading neurosurgical journals, and has given invited lectures on cranial and spine surgery around the globe. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery.
