Dr. Gayle Balba is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University School of Medicine, the Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship training program and Director of the Hepatitis Clinic. Dr. Balba is a triple Hoya completing her medical school, Infectious Diseases Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Georgetown University and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Her academic interests include graduate medical education (GME) and education scholarship. She has published papers in GME focusing on learning during COVID, Tools for ID programs to improve inclusion, diversity, access and equity, and high impact learning in high volume and high acuity environments. Her research interests have focused on telehealth during the COVID pandemic and the impact of COVID on ID fellowship education. She also directs the hepatitis clinic which focuses on training ID diseases to provide state of the art clinical care in hepatitis B and C. Some of her earlier research was on HCV direct acting agents. Her clinical interests are primarily in HCV and HIV and general ID. She precepts in the fellows HIV continuity clinic, outpatient ambulatory blocks, and attends on the inpatient consult service.
In her free time, Dr. Balba enjoys traveling with her husband and 2 teenage children and spending time with her golden retriever Franklin. She has recently started to play tennis and officially has made it on the USTA teams.
