Nina Laing, LICSW, APHSW-C is a trained clinical social worker and clinical ethicist at the John J. Lynch, MD Center for Ethics at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. Nina has a deep commitment to improving patient care through the lens of clinical ethics and palliative care. She joined MedStar Washington in 2017 as a social worker, collaborating closely with patients and families in the ICU as they navigated the complex challenges of critical illness, trauma, and disease progression.
Prior to her work at MedStar Health, Nina earned her master’s in social work from the Silver School of Social Work at New York University (NYU). During her early career, she gained invaluable experience at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, where she worked with children and families facing chronic and life-limiting illnesses. Nina.m also completed a fellowship in Palliative Social Work at Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York City. In addition to her work as a clinical ethicist, Nina directs the palliative social work fellowship program at Medstar Washington and has contributed to the field through published works that explore the role of palliative social work. Her academic interests include health equity and complex communication at the end of life.
