Dr. William Postma is the Chief of Sports Medicine at Medstar Georgetown Orthopaedic Institute and the Vice Chairman of Education. Originally from South Carolina, he went to medical school at Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at Georgetown. He subsequently underwent a sports medicine fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center before returning to Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.
His clinical practice focuses on arthroscopic surgery of the hip and knee where he specializes in Hip Impingement/FAI/Labral tears, ACL/Ligament reconstruction, Cartilage Restoration, Meniscal pathology, Patellofemoral/knee instability, and all other non-arthritic conditions . These areas are also the focus of his research where he publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals. He treats athletes of all ages and abilities from high school, collegiate, and professional athletes to the weekend warrior and middle-aged athlete. Dr. Postma is a Professor of Orthopaedics at Georgetown University School of Medicine and servers as the Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for Georgetown University Athletics. Finally, he is also the Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Washington Wizards.
