Mihriye Mete, PhD, is the director of behavioral health research and a senior member of the Center for Biostatistics, Informatics and Data Science at MHRI. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Georgetown University.
Dr. Mete specializes in quantitative research methods and conducts research in mental and behavioral health. Her current research agenda includes projects in substance abuse, mindfulness, depression, and anxiety, healthcare workforce wellbeing, and diabetes management. With her interdisciplinary background, she is able to view clinical studies from public health, policy, and socio-economic perspectives, among others, and incorporate the most appropriate and scientifically sound study design and data analysis approaches. Dr. Mete also collaborates with investigators in palliative care and cancer research.
Because of the collaborative nature of her work, she has experience working with numerous investigators across a broad range of disciplines and has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. Her work is widely published in journals, such as the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications, and the Journal of Traumatic Stress.
In addition to her research and management responsibilities, Dr. Mete serves as a consultant in econometric and demographic analysis and has worked for such notable organizations as the World Bank. Prior to joining MedStar, she held faculty positions at Michigan State University and the University of Georgia and was a visiting Assistant Professor at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute, where she taught courses in advanced statistical methods.
Dr. Mete earned a bachelor's degree in Management Engineering, with a specialization in Economics and Mathematics, from Istanbul Technical University and received a PhD in Political Science, with emphasis on statistical methods, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
