Theodora Balis, MD, is the Vice Chair for Education, Baltimore Region and Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program. She also serves as a collaborative care community psychiatrist at the mobile HEART team. Dr. Balis trained in psychiatry at the University of Maryland. She was on faculty in the department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland from 1998 to 2024 where she was the Director of Cultural Psychiatry Training and PGY1 Coordinator, involved in clinical work, teaching residents and students, and research.
Dr. Balis joined Bon Secours Hospital in 2013, where she was the Medical Director of the ACT team and Director of Medical Education in Psychiatry. The hospital became Grace Medical Center- Lifebridgehealth where she continued in these roles and joined the faculty at George Washington University 2022-2023. She joined the Department of Psychiatry at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in July 2023.
Dr. Balis has published on Mood Disorders and the environment and been an invited speaker at several national meetings on topics of Community Psychiatry, Assertive Community Treatment, Cultural Psychiatry, and education. She is actively involved in teaching medical students and psychiatry residents. In addition, she has been active in statewide organizations and is the President of the Maryland Psychiatric Society 2024-2025.
