Elizabeth Chawla, MD, FAAP is a primary care pediatrician at the Medstar Georgetown University Hospital’s Pediatrics clinic. She is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Chawla has been a part of the Georgetown family for many years, first as a medical student at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, then as a resident in pediatrics, then as the Chief Resident of Pediatrics, and finally as an attending physician in the department. She has always enjoyed teaching and working with the residents, and loves being an Associate Program Director! Dr. Chawla primarily works in the outpatient clinic, overseeing the residents’ continuity clinic curriculum and as course director for our Ambulatory Rotation. Her primary clinical interests are in primary care and pediatric preventive medicine, breastfeeding, and integration of mental and behavioral health into the primary care setting. She is also the co-director of our Integrated Mental Health clinic in the pediatric outpatient clinic, and has presented locally, regionally, and nationally about our innovative program. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD), and has recently been named the Vice Chair of the APPD’s Mental and Behavioral Health Learning Community. Dr. Chawla and her husband live in Maryland with their two children, Abhishek and Surina. In her free time, she loves singing in the car, baking, party planning and other crafty things.
