Ian Weston
Ian Weston serves as assistant vice president of Integrated Surgical Services for MedStar Medical Group. In this role, he oversees the operations of ambulatory and hospital-based surgical services, including General, Specialty, and Reconstructive programs, which includes over 500 providers and associates.
Weston joined MedStar Health in 2017 after serving as executive director of the American Trauma Society (ATS). While at the ATS, he was responsible for working with adult and pediatric trauma centers throughout the United States, helping to develop local and regional trauma care systems, trauma prevention programs, and survivorship/recovery programs for patients. Prior to ATS, Weston served as director of the Emergency Medical Services for Children Program, National Resource Center at Children’s National Medical Center. At Children’s National, Weston led a federal government-funded program that worked with state, local, and hospital-based emergency medical service programs to develop their ability to care for children in the pre-hospital and emergency department environments. He has also held health policy advisory positions in the Federal Government and private sectors.
Weston serves at the Deputy Commander for the Maryland-1 DMAT, a Baltimore-based Disaster Medical Assistance Team for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Weston has been deployed throughout the U.S. and its territories, providing rapid-response medical care when disasters and public health emergencies overwhelm state, local, tribal, or territorial resources.
Weston holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy and Political Science from Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and a Master of Arts degree in Global Health Policy from George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government.
