Tara Saggar, MD
Tara Saggar, MD, serves as assistant vice president of Medical Operations for MedStar Medical Group. In this role, she provides clinical and operational direction to the MedStar Medical Group pillar, working in partnership with the vice president of Operations. She directs strategy related to performance, access, quality improvement, patient experience, and physician compensation for MedStar Medical Group in adult and pediatric Primary Care, Pediatric Specialty Care, Neonatology, Geriatrics, Behavioral Health, and Dermatology.
Prior to this role, Dr. Saggar has served as the service line leader for Primary Care, as the regional medical director for the Washington D.C./Virginia/Southern Maryland area and as the medical director for Southern Maryland Physicians, LLC, a multi-specialty group, in addition to being an internal medicine physician.
Dr. Saggar has been an essential leader in the expansion of ambulatory services throughout MedStar Health’s Distributed Care Delivery Network with the acquisition and integration of multiple offices. She has distinguished herself with incisive and critical leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing system guidance on the primary care response. Dr. Saggar served as medical director for the Arena Stage MedStar Health Mass Vaccination Center administering vaccines to thousands of Washington, D.C., residents. She led the clinical operations for COVID-19 therapeutics, including monoclonal antibody treatments and helped establish the MedStar Health high-capacity vaccination centers and the COVID-19 testing locations.
Dr. Saggar earned her Doctor of Medicine from Saba University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at West Suburban Medical Center. She earned her Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Wright State University, and her Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University. Dr. Saggar is a graduate of the MedStar Physician Leader of the Future Cohort 2. She is the chair of the MedStar Medical Group Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity group, co-chairs the Primary Care Clinical Council, and is a workgroup member of MedStar Health’s Senior Physician Leadership Development Series. She sits on the Board of Directors for MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and is a committee member for the Maryland Primary Care Program Care Transformation Organization (CTO). Dr. Saggar holds a Lean Six Sigma green belt certification and is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
