Norman J. Beauchamp Jr., MD, MHS, serves as executive vice president for health sciences at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) and executive dean of Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is also a tenured faculty member in the Department of Neurology, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Radiology at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Beauchamp is a leading researcher in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and an experienced academic leader. From 2019 until he joined Georgetown in 2024, he served as the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences at Michigan State University (MSU). At MSU, he was responsible for important moments of growth and transformation, both in his role as executive vice president and prior to that as MSU’s inaugural Associate Provost and Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs and dean of the MSU College of Human Medicine.
He joined MSU in 2016 after 14 years as professor and chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington (UW), where he also served as president of their Physicians Practice, as chair and vice chair of the Faculty Senate, as a co-founder of the UW School of Medicine’s Wellness Committee, and as the founding medical director of the Seattle/King County Clinic, an annual volunteer clinic that provides free medical, dental, and vision care to thousands of local residents.
After completing his medical degree at MSU, Beauchamp began his medical career at the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), where he completed his radiology residency, neuroradiology fellowship, and neurointerventional training before joining their faculty in 1996. There, he served as vice chair for clinical operations and interim chair for radiology. As a neurointerventional radiologist, Beauchamp’s research has focused on improving stroke prevention, diagnosis, and treatment approaches.
At JHU and UW, he directed the Cardiovascular Health Study MRI Image Analysis Center, a National Institutes of Health-funded center with nearly 6,000 study participants. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, received three outstanding faculty teaching awards in radiology at JHU, and was recognized with the UW David B. Thorud Leadership Award. Beauchamp has served in a number of leadership roles, including as president of the American Roentgen Ray Society and chair of its International Outreach Committee, as chair and member of the board of directors of the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments, and chair of the Education Commission and board chancellor for the American College of Radiology.
