David Hellinga is the scientific center administrative director of pre-clinical services and the Biomarker, Biochemistry and Biorepository Core (B3 Core) laboratories at MedStar Health Research Institute. In this role, he is responsible for the overall oversight of all aspects of research, business services, personnel administration, budget administration, facilities, and regulatory compliance in these areas. David also serves as the vice chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
David applies his knowledge and technical expertise in pre-clinical research protocol oversight for pre-clinical research studies. He has a proven track record as a strong collaborator to researchers and staff, helping them to bring their research projects from conception to completion, and navigate the process to secure FDA approval.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, David worked at the Smithsonian National Museum where he served in the animal nutrition department of the National Zoo.
David graduated from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, with a master's degree in animal nutrition specializing in exotics and wildlife and a bachelor’s degree in biology.
