Douglas Van Nostrand

Douglas Van Nostrand, MD, FACP, FACNP, is the Director of Nuclear Medicine at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and a Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine and has been actively involved in clinical and investigative applications of nuclear medicine for more than 30 years.
Dr. Van Nostrand is widely published in the field of nuclear medicine and is on the Editorial Review Board for the Society of Nuclear Medicine. His scholarly articles, editorials, and reviews have appeared in prominent refereed journals, including theJournal of Nuclear Medicine. He is the author of more than 20 book chapters and has written and/or edited eight medical textbooks.
In addition to his clinical and research pursuits, Dr. Van Nostrand is a frequent invited lecturer at medical conferences and continuing education workshops. During the past 10 years, Dr. Van Nostrand has trained more than 1,000 physicians in Cardiac Nuclear Medicine both within fellowship training programs and through computer-based workshops. Dr. Van Nostrand is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Nuclear Physicians. He also is an active member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Society of Molecular Imaging, and the American Thyroid Association.
Prior to joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Van Nostrand was the Director of Nuclear Medicine at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He also served as Clinical Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, for more than 20 years. Dr. Van Nostrand earned his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and pursued postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He completed a fellowship in Nuclear Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
