Jamal Smith, MD, MSc., CCRP, is the project manager of Population Health at the MedStar Health Research Institute. He is the lead coordinator for the NIH-funded StrokeNet regional coordinating center - Stroke Capital Area Network for Research (SCANR) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

In addition to stroke research, Dr. Smith has conducted studies in epilepsy and multiple sclerosis and has participated in commercial and investigator-initiated studies. A co-author on studies involving Biomarkers of Stroke Recovery and Repair Research, his career in healthcare spans over 15 years, with the last 8 of those at MedStar Health Research Institute at MCRN, MCRC, and MNRH.

Dr. Smith is a native of the Bahamas and worked as a district medical officer in Public Health and senior house officer for the Public Hospitals Authority before joining MedStar Health.

He earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies, his master’s degree from the University College of London, and his certification as a certified clinical research professional through national accreditation. Dr. Smith enjoys traveling with his wife and two daughters and spending time with his family.

Dr. Smith is a member of SOCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates).
