Federico Asch, MD, FACC, FASE, is the Director of the Echocardiography Core Lab at MedStar Health Research Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Georgetown University. Dr. Asch is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, and the Argentinean Society of Cardiology. He serves on the Guidelines and Standards Committee of the American Society of Echocardiography and the institutional review board of MedStar Health Research Institute.
Dr. Asch is a frequent invited speaker at national meetings and is board certified in cardiology. His areas of interest are myocardial viability, critical care cardiology, 3-D echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, and valvular heart disease. Dr. Asch has published several articles in the New England Journal of Medicineand other peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation and the American Heart Journal. He received his MD from the Universidad de Buenos Aires Medical School and completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires in Argentina. He then completed an Echocardiography fellowship, followed by a residency and fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the Georgetown University/MedStar Washington Hospital Center/DC VA Medical Center program.

Dr. Asch's has published research on three-dimensional echocardiography and contrast echo, as well as the value of imaging coronary artery disease. He is principal investigator for the Genetically-triggered Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Cardiovascular Conditions (GenTAC) study, sponsored by NHLBI, and is co-investigator for the Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure (STICH) trial, sponsored by NIH. The STICH trial is a data analysis of myocardial viability in ischemic cardiomyopathy.
