Welcome to the Breast Health Program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center
The MedStar Breast Health Program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has long been a leader in the field of breast care, offering cutting-edge treatment options, clinical trials, and advanced technology to address the unique needs of our patients. Here, breast care is focused on the entire patient and is provided by a highly specialized team—a multidisciplinary tumor board made up of a broad panel of nationally recognized experts as well as support staff with extensive experience in caring for breast cancer patients.
One of the first programs in Washington, D.C. to be fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, we are committed to ensuring patients have access to the highest quality care throughout their cancer journey. Patients meet with surgical, radiation, and medical oncologists in one setting, discuss their treatment options, and collaborate in the development of a treatment plan customized to deliver the best possible outcomes.
We use state-of-the art technology to carefully diagnose and stage breast cancer, minimizing the time between screening and diagnosis so treatment can begin sooner. For abnormal screening results, a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy are completed within 48 hours. We also consult with patients seeking a second opinion regarding their diagnosis, providing them with additional viewpoints to assist them in making more informed decisions about their treatment options.
From our nationally recognized expertise to our ongoing support throughout the cancer journey, everything we do revolves around helping our patients live well with cancer. This combination of medical excellence and human compassion has made our program the region’s choice for cancer care.
