Jill Schimmel, Esq., CPHRM
Jill Schimmel serves as Assistant Vice President of Risk Management at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and MedStar Harbor Hospital. In this role, Jill’s responsibilities include identifying and mitigating potential risks that could affect patient care, staff safety, and the organization's financial well-being. As the healthcare risk manager, Jill plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the hospital’s healthcare services. Jill also provides education and training to our healthcare providers to mitigate and prevent risk.
Jill joined MedStar Health in 2022. She brings 17 years of experience as a lawyer to our hospitals. Jill has represented and defended healthcare providers, practices and healthcare systems in medical malpractice cases. She also worked as in house counsel and risk manager for a national healthcare company where she directed all aspects of litigation, claims, insurance and risk management. In 2021, Jill became a Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager (CPHRM).
Jill received her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from The George Washington University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Jill is an active member of the Maryland bar and ASHRM and serves as a panel member on many healthcare discussions and conferences.
