Patient Story: Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program | MedStar Health
Summary
As a result of an automobile accident, Delores Metsopoulos was in a lot of pain and could not stand straight. She was scheduled to have surgery at another local hospital and it was cancelled because of her beliefs, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, not to take blood. After the surgery was cancelled, Delores heard about MedStar Georgetown’s Bloodless Surgery Program. When she walked out of her appointment with Dr. Lauerman, MedStar Georgetown orthopaedic surgeon, she felt confident and comfortable — she knew she would be okay.
