Whether it’s a toddler’s ear infection, an athlete’s twisted ankle or a family’s need for COVID-19 testing and vaccines, urgent care centers fulfill an essential need in our communities, especially now. MedStar Health is taking significant steps to expand and provide even more of these services and resources to areas throughout the region.
In December 2020, MedStar Health announced the acquisition of Righttime Medical Care, a local provider of urgent care for more than 30 years. The acquisition adds 19 urgent care centers to the MedStar Health network, doubling its number of centers to 33 throughout Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region.
“This helps us expand our footprint to reach more communities,” says Elizabeth Delasobera, MD, medical director of MedStar Health Urgent Care. “We can now help thousands more patients across the state of Maryland to get coordinated treatment and follow-up care.”
MedStar Health Urgent Care already had widespread reach in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The acquisition of Righttime gives the system reach into more areas in Maryland, specifically Western Maryland, counties along the I-270 corridor, and Anne Arundel County.
Find care now
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or seek care at an emergency room.
The move came at one of the busiest times in history for urgent care, with COVID-19 testing and vaccination services in extremely high demand. Since the acquisition, MedStar Health Urgent Care has administered more than 500,000 COVID-19 tests across 33 locations.
Robert Graw, MD, chief executive officer and founder of Righttime Medical Care, says merging these two established names in urgent care gives patients greater access to care closer to home, and delivers a more consistent health care experience.
“Not only can patients get the right care at the right time, they can also get consistent care every time,” he says.
When patients visit MedStar Health Urgent Care, all of their past visits to any MedStar Health location or hospital are available for the attending physician to review. The urgent care physician can also see any follow-up care that was recommended or provided. Through this streamlined approach to medical care, referral outreach is conducted, appointments are made, and proper care is received.
If an urgent care patient needs the immediate consultation of an emergency room physician, cardiologist, or pediatrician, they can connect via teleconference right there at the center.
This level of service is why MedStar Health was a “perfect complement” to Righttime Medical Care, says Graw.
“Both MedStar Health and Righttime have exceptional reputations in the community,” he says. “We’re working together to simplify access to medical care throughout the region.”
