COPIC Medical Foundation Awards Grant to MedStar Health for Resident Training Program in Patient Safety

Columbia, MD –The MedStar Health Institute for Quality and Safety has been awarded a grant by the COPIC Medical Foundation to provide scholarships to resident physicians to attend the Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety summer program.

Over the last fifteen years, The Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety has brought international leaders in patient safety, quality improvement, human factors, and health science education together with patient advocates and resident physicians to address important patient safety issues. Through the generous support of the COPIC Medical Foundation, full scholarships will be made available to resident physicians practicing in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Utah to attend a one-week Academy session.

 “This grant will allow us to extend the unique experience of The Academy to nearly 35 resident physicians across 10 states. By educating resident physicians on the principles and strategies of patient safety we are directly improving health care in the communities served by our next generation of physicians which is at the very core of the Foundation’s mission. I am incredibly grateful to the COPIC Medical Foundation and excited to kick-off this summer’s training program,” said David Mayer, MD, executive director of the MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety and founder of the Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety.

This year’s Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety – COPIC Medical Foundation Resident week will run from Monday, June 8 – Thursday, June 11 in Breckenridge, Colorado. 

Applications for the scholarships are due March 31^st, 2020.
