Young Patients Battling Serious Illness ‘Rocking the Red’ During Stanley Cup Finals

The Washington Capitals are on a championship run and no one is ‘rocking the red’ like pediatric cancer patients being treated at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Throughout the Stanley Cup Finals, young patients are working together on Caps themed paintings through Tracy’s Kids, a non-profit art therapy program for children suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses.

Founder Tracy Council says the Capitals have supported kids in the MedStar Georgetown clinic all year long, now it’s their chance to show appreciation.

"The Caps helped renovate our Pediatric Oncology Clinic and they visit the kids when they get a chance. The players are really great with the kids. We are so grateful for their support--and such big Caps fans!" she said.

Tracy’s Kids art therapy sessions are designed to offer patients and their families a therapeutic outlet to identify and process the difficult experiences and feelings that accompany cancer. Thanks to the Capitals historic Finals appearance, many children battling cancer at MedStar Georgetown are focused on their heroes trying to bring home the trophy!
