As we continue to make progress on the Medical/Surgical Pavilion at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, we want to express our gratitude to our patients, associates, and community who have partnered with us to advance medical excellence.
At MedStar Georgetown, we know that gratitude matters. Every expression of gratitude is deeply meaningful and impactful, whether by sending a message to honor a caregiver or investing in the mission of our organization through philanthropy. With the generous support of our philanthropic partners, we are exceeding expectations as we build a world-class facility with state-of-the-art technology in the heart of Washington D.C.
Thankful for Christmases to come
Although Kate McCarthy spent last year’s Christmas in the hospital, she considers herself lucky that Zhifei Sun, MD, a colon and rectal surgeon at MedStar Georgetown, was on call to perform her emergency surgery. “I am so grateful for the care I received in the ER, for the incredible skill of Dr. Sun and his team, and the kind, dedicated care I received from the nurses,” she says. “I was especially impressed that Dr. Sun checked on me every day…even on his days off.” In gratitude, Kate made a philanthropic gift to support the construction of the new Medical/Surgical Pavilion at MedStar Georgetown.
Improving quality of healthcare for generations
“I have so much confidence in Dr. Khanna’s leadership and expertise—we are certain he will advance orthopaedic and spine research to find even better clinical approaches to care for patients. This is the main reason we are so proud to be philanthropic partners for the Medical/Surgical Pavilion and Endowed Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Medical Center,” says Mr. D’Aniello.

Giving to promote healing
“The new facility is going to be amazing, and we decided it was something we wanted to support,’ Greg adds. “Given our recent experiences with the emergency department, we decided to make a gift that will fund one of the new patient rooms, ultimately ensuring a better and more comfortable experience for future patients,” Greg explains. As a result of their generosity, one of the rooms will be named in their honor.
