Enhancing our center to foster healing
and hope
The Addiction and Mental Health Center (AMHC) at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center has served our community for more than 40 years, but its outdated facilities now challenge patient wellbeing and staff morale. There is an urgent need for critical renovations to create a more uplifting and healing environment.
The AMHC has earned a reputation as a Center of Excellence, delivering a comprehensive range of integrated inpatient, outpatient, crisis, community education, and outreach programs.
Renovation goals
Our renovation project will modernize inpatient behavioral health treatment areas, significantly enhancing the safety and security of both staff and patients while fostering a healing environment tailored to the unique needs of behavioral health patients. Renovations will include:
- Upgraded nurses station and reception area: A secure and welcoming space designed for both staff and visitors.
- Improvements to patient rooms and group areas: Enhancements throughout patient rooms, group spaces, and care areas to ensure safety and comfort during the healing process.
- Aesthetic enhancements: Fresh paint, improved lighting, and updated finishes to create a more inviting atmosphere, alongside durable, easy-to-clean flooring to promote hygiene.
- Enhanced security infrastructure: Transitioning from key access doors to badge access doors to bolster the safety of patients and staff.
The impact of renovations
These proposed improvements will have a profound impact on our patients and staff by:
- Enhancing safety and security for all individuals.
- Promoting well-being and successful treatment outcomes for patients.
- Improving staff service delivery and overall wellness.
Bob Tettelbach's story
"As a former patient at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, I can personally attest to the importance of the environment in behavioral health care. While their programs are top-notch, the condition of the facilities can be discouraging for patients.
As a member of the philanthropy committee, I chose to contribute to restoring this program to its former glory. I urge you to join me in supporting the improvement of our facilities, so they match the exceptional care provided by the staff. Together, we can make a difference."

Community support and matching gift campaign
To date, we have raised nearly $200,000 from Bob and other generous members of the community. We also are excited to announce that our retired president, Pete Monge, and his wife Cathie are launching a matching gift campaign. They will match every dollar given in support of this project, up to $100,000, on a 1-to-1 basis.
Pete and Cathie especially challenge other alumni of the hospital to join them in this effort. By meeting Pete and Cathie’s challenge, we will be well on our way to achieving our overall goal of $500,000 in community support.
