Emily Riffle Messner, CFRE, is regional vice president and chief philanthropy officer for the DC region and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. In this role, Emily is responsible for leading philanthropy strategy to increase philanthropic support for MedStar Georgetown, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. She provides oversight and management of all philanthropic initiatives in the region and works in partnership with Georgetown University Medical Center leadership to support the MedStar Health Strategic Plan.

Emily has been with MedStar Health since 2010, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including vice president of philanthropy at MedStar Georgetown and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital and senior philanthropy officer at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. Emily began her fundraising career in the performing arts, where she served as director of development for the Choral Arts Society of Washington in Washington, DC.

A certified fund-raising executive, Emily also holds a Master of Arts in art history from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Vanderbilt University.

Emily is a recipient of The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) 40 Under 40 Program, designed to recognize the future leaders within the healthcare philanthropy community. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Choral Arts Society of Washington from 2017-2023. Emily is a frequent presenter and speaker at the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy International conferences.
