This is a therapy which destroys harmful tissue in the body. We perform two types of ablation therapy:
APC: Argon plasma coagulation is an ablation treatment used to treat Barrett’s esophagus and small lesions that cause chronic gastrointestinal blood loss. During an upper endoscopy, the gastroenterologist will target the affected tissue with thermal energy through ionized argon gas. The area in question may need several treatments
Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy is also used during an upper endoscopy to treat Barrett’s esophagus. The gastroenterologist will aim liquid nitrogen at the targeted area. Liquid nitrogen is very cold and causes the harmful cells to die off and scar over. You may need one or more treatments to be sure the area has been eradicated.
