Endoscopic Dilation | MedStar Health
A narrowing within the gastrointestinal tract due to inflammation or scar tissue can cause a blockage within the gastrointestinal tract. Endoscopic dilation may be indicated. This procedure is done through an upper endoscopy. A small balloon is passed over the guide wire and inflation of the balloon inside the gastrointestinal tract causes the area to stretch and re-expand. You may need one or more treatments to alleviate symptoms.
