Compassionate, palliative care at the end of life
Hospice is a philosophy of caring for those with a life-threatening illness. At MedStar Health, hospice is centered on patient and family care that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs of the patient. For example, hospice supports family members coping with the impending death of their loved one by providing connection and resources for community services.
In addition, we have partnered with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to provide Open Access through the Total Care and Cost Improvement (TCCI) program. This initiative allows patients to receive hospice services while simultaneously continuing to pursue treatment for their condition.
Our focus is on the care and comfort of our patients through pain and symptom management services. The patient/family unit always has the final say in all care decisions.
Hospice care can be offered in a variety of settings, including the patient’s home, assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and our Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland.
