Tara Millson, DNP, RN, CIC, FAPIC
Tara Millson is the Director of Infection Prevention at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Tara began her nursing career at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) in upstate New York, where she spent 10 years at the bedside on a telemetry unit as an RN, charge RN, and clinical educator. Building on a keen interest in quality care and patient safety, she then moved into the role of infection preventionist at MVHS and found her passion.
Prior to joining MedStar Georgetown, Tara was the Director of Infection Prevention at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and a public health analyst and infection preventionist at the CDC in Atlanta, GA. Tara is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago where she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Infection Prevention. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Nursing and a master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Management.
Tara is active with several professional organizations and is currently the chair of the Practice Guidance Committee with the national Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). She is certified in infection prevention and control from the Certification Board in Infection Control (CBIC) and was named a Fellow of APIC in 2020. Tara is a published author in the field and has presented at numerous regional and national conferences on various topics related to infection prevention and control.
